Hi everyone!

I've got a question about streaming and encryption, which I was hoping some of you could help me with.

I have an external Plex media server, which I stream various content from to my home TV. I'd like this streaming to be encrypted, if possible.
First, my setup is like this:

I have Merlin FW running on my router at home. I've got an OpenVPN client running directly on the router, but I'm only allowing my laptop to use the connection, through policy rules. All other devices are defaulting to the normal ISP connection.

But, I'm using an iPad and and Iphone to stream media with the Plex app, then chromecasting it to my TV (The TV doesn't have a Plex app)

I must admit, I'm not entirely sure how this works, so I'm unsure how to do it.
But, my first idea is, to simply find out what IP the server has, then for the iphone, ipad and the chromecast (is this one necessary?) - route this traffic through the VPN with policy routing.

Will this be sufficient to encrypt the streaming? (By encrypt, I mean make all the streaming go through the VPN connection)

And would I have to do something about DNS too? like using dnscrypt or something?

Thanks in advance

I have an external Plex media server,

external to what ? external to your local area network or external in its a stand alone comp or nas on your local area network

why would you want to encrypt streaming as it would just add jitter and buffer issues related to the encoding and decoding of the stream

Oh sorry, i should have been more specific. Its a rented server in another country. I'm just a bit paranoid and want to protect my content. Don't like the idea that its completely unprotected. But again, I'm not really shirt how these things work exactly :)
