HI,

i flashed the new Merlin Firmware for my RT-N66U and this was the first 3xx firmware where i have full speed on 5Ghz. Thats very fine !
But now icant play my HD movies over DLNA :( When i play the movies over the Android App "AiCloud", which have direct access , no problem. No stutter and everything works.
But when i want to play the same file over Plex Media Server or any other DLNA Server , the speed goes down to very slow and cant play any movie.
Look at my screenshot, left is play movie over AiCloud, right is the same file over DLNA.

To exclude, that my server(Windows Home Server 2011) with the PLex Media Server is the problem, i change the router and use my Buffalo AG-300H with DD-Wrt Firmware and here no problem with streamnig over DLNA .

Any idea, why streaming with DLNA is impossible?

Totti

P.S. Sorry for my english, Google translate is my friend ;)

No one else? Why it work with the Buffalo... ??

Check the other recent threads regarding DLNA & AiCloud status in the current f/w versions.

I don't have any ideas, I don't really use DLNA, but other people might have some insights. It'd probably help if you stated the exact f/w version you are running, how & where your media files are stored, and what devices have you used and how does everything connect. Like I can't really determine if you have used clients that are hardwired or only wifi, and if you are doing this all inside your LAN/WLAN (if so why use AiCloud and not just VLC or something on your Android?) but since you're posting a screenshot of your UI I'm thinking it is all in fact from inside your LAN/WLAN. Can your DLNA clients see the network share when it's shared by Plex but they cannot use it? Are you using AiCloud because you are serving up your content from the router's USB port?

Anyway that's just some stuff that wasn't clear to me in your explanation, but I would check the other threads relevant to your f/w first.

Good luck. :)

Transfer slowness

Hello, i also have this issue. I have tried everything.
I am running the latest version of merlin for my asus rt-66r router. i have one in reg mode and one is in media extender mode to use full wireless ac. and i have a windows 7 64 bit machine. when i try to copy files with windows from one machine to another machine its very slow and sluggish. when i do a media streaming the it is chuggy and very un watchable. it would work fine before. even when i do a folder share and try to copy one file over the network to another computer on another folder. i get very slow transfer speeds and it will actually drop out connection and freeze everything up. but when i use ftp sever on one machine and upload to one machine or download to one machine it works fine. it goes very fast. but i still get the occasional dropouts with that also. i also have the latest version of plex installed. when i go back to my linksys router it works fine both ways. why would my linksys work and my asus is chugging alsong? i have tried everything. reset settings looked at sharing. deleted everything. tried the usb on the router and it so so works. ugh very frustrating. i even reformatted my machine and used different devices to send and receive from. still a no go. god i dont know what to try.

thanks for the help guys

Ok, here meine Config:
Windows Server 2011(all updates and newsest drivers), Asrock B85M ITX (latest Lan Driver), Merlins latest 3.0.0.4.374.33 with fresh install(factory reset).

The Asus internal Mini DLNA is not used and i have no wired problems. No disk on the Asus USB.
The only problem,is when i play movies over DLNA and any Media Server (tested Plex, Universal Media Server). Ai-Cloud works fine with the same movies.
And speed outside DLNA is fine with the new firmware. On my Samsnug Note2 und Tab 10.1 its the first time, i have rates about 50Mbit (5 Ghz).
Direct files access to movies is ok but i cant use it on some other devices like my LG TV, on the LG i must use the built in PLex Client and that use DLNA.

I have also an Mede8er X600 Player, that worked fine when i use Samba or NFS (wireless) but when i want to use DLNA i cant play any movie on it because the transfer rate goes down to 200kb and less

you know thats funny tasar,

mine is doing the exact same thing.
i cant use plex. every 5 seconds it has to buffer, and when i do a folder transfer to another computer it will go for about 10 to 15 seconds then it drops down to 0, and i loose connection. it just started and has always been fine. i have no idea what it is doing now. :-(

Are you all using Plex? I currently got a Simpsons episode streaming from my desktop to my Nexus 7 using WIndows Media Sharing (which is DLNA) and Plugplayer on my N7, no problem at all.

I'm getting ready to try it via Pogoplug and Nero MediaHome...I'll report back after I update to the new Merlin firmware in a few miniutes.

NO ISSUES. Streaming 720p video at overall bit rate: 6319 Kbps.

I'll install the KooRaRoo Media DLNA Server, and see if I can duplicate issue.

Thanx for your reply but i cant use another DLNA Media Server because my LG TV´s has an built in PLex Media client, this works only with PLex Server. I can use any other DLNA Server but then i have the problem, that icant play movies with DTS Sound. The LG cant play DTS Sound only with PLex .
And as i write, i have the same problem with Univeral Media Server. But ony with the Asus router :(

And here is my result with KooRaRoo, icant stream nothing on every device with DLNA :(

Because i get no answer what is the problem with DLNA by me i installed the 3.0.0.4.374.32_0-sdk6 and now, everything over DLNA works fine.
No stutter and same speed as with AiCloud or Samba.
But now the Speed with 5Ghz is slower then the last final .33.
But its Ok.. iam waiting for the next version ;)

Used to have this problem but updating to later merlin firmware fixed it.

I use Plex Media Server 0.9.8.6.175 on a Mid-2011 iMac. Works with my 64F8500 Samsung TV's built in Plex Client 1.006 over a wired connection and also in my bedroom via 2.4g wireless Roku 2 XH client perfectly.

Plex is the bomb btw. :)

I have the DLNA problem with Merlins latest .33. Which one you are use? At the moment the 3.0.0.4.374.32_0-sdk6 solve my DLNA problem.

In that case your problem have to do with wireless performance, not DLNA itself. From the router's point of view DLNA is nothing more than streams of udp packets.

OK, but i wonder that your latest .33 has the best Wlan speed in normal use. The .33 was the first, where i have rates in 5Ghz round about 50Mbit, near the speed on my wired Lan PC.
The .32.0 comes not over 20Mbit but DLNA works ;)

374.33 on the RT-N66U switched to a completely different wireless driver, similar to the more recent version used on the RT-AC66U. Some people report better performance, but others with larger surfaces to cover are affected by a reduction in coverage, hence the existence of the separate sdk5 build, which uses the older driver used in 374.32.
