StrongVPN/OpenVPN on my RT-AC56U and/or RT-N66U

I thought perhaps the stock ASUS firmware on my ASUS routers might work with StrongVPN, since they both have native OpenVPN support. A query to StrongVPN reported: "ASUS stock firmware will not work because it doesn't have the command prompt, which should be used to run firewall scripts and also set the correct environment for DNS. Simply uploading the config file to the router will not work for many services... You can only use either DD-WRT or Tomato on the router."

Hmm...is Asuswrt-Merlin DD-WRT-like enough to also work? Meaning, has anyone tried and determined Y/N? They make it sound as if being able to run scripts is the problem. Thanks.

Thanks. I called myself searching both Google and this forum but somehow missed that thread. It is encouraging. But, it begs the question for me: Could that same approach be employed with the native Asus firmware, or are there features in Asuswrt-Merlin that are essential to getting OpenVPN working with StrongVPN? I can play with router configurations readily enough, but when it comes to running (and editing) scripts, I have managed by the sort of cookbook hand-holding StrongVPN provides to its less technically sophisticated customers. But, for the sake of full disclosure, I've not yet tried this with the native Asus firmware, as I am reluctant to attempt what others may already have proved impossible!
