New Around Here
Hi,
I had a house built recently and I am trying to get the cabeling sorted out. In one location I have my RG6 from outside come in to the cable modem. In this same location I have many CAT6 cables running all over the home, for a variety of wired connections points. Currently I have a short run of CAT6 running from the modem to one port of a 16 port switch (Model Netgear FS116), and all other CAT6 to various locations around home connected to it. One CAT6 connected to the switch runs to my office which is then connected to an ASUS router for various wireless duties. The wireless works fine and when I plug in anything to back of the router I get a good wired connection e.g.a kodi box. However if I use any of the connections around the house that run directly from the switch to say a bedroom, I get no connection.
In order to get the switch working correctly, must the modem be connected directly to the router ahead of the switch and then the router to the switch? I have tested connections with a tester and know I have things labeled and terminated correctly, but just can't get anything to work unless it is directly off of the back of the router, which only has 4 ports and not nearly enough for my centrally distributed bundle of cat 6 wires.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
Chris
