Can someone help me out here...the Synology 1010+ 5100 comes with 5 1TB drives, but I don't see anything on this preconfigured setup on Synology's website.

What drives come with the 1010+ 5100??? How are they setup (i.e.: RAID 5)???

As far as I know, Synology don't sell their NAS's with drives - they only sell as BYOD

What you might have seen is a retailer putting together the package for you and selling as one price

By doing this, they may be selling it slightly cheaper than if bought separately, but you are limited to the drives that they have chosen

You would need to contact the retailer, to clarify which drives they use

EDIT I stand corrected by Tim below, but I know that some retailers do put their own package of NAS and disks together - so I would check with the retailer

Synology does sell diskful products. The product would probably come configured in RAID 5, but that can easily be changed.

They used Samsung HE103UJ F1's in the 1010+ they sent for review.

I talked to Synology today. They said they are currently using Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 drives (ST31000528AS).

Pretty high failure rates with the Seagates...think I would greatly prefer the Samsung F1's mentioned above. Maybe I'll get lucky.

OK, I'm confused. Could be the imperfect translation or my imperfect understanduing of NAS's.

Is the 1511+ a successor to the 1010+? If so, when would it be expected in the US?

Well, I ordered the 1010+ 5100 which was supposed to come from Synology preconfigured with 5 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 drives. The vendor called yesterday and advised there was a mistake, but they are honoring the original purchase price and will be sending me the diskless 1010+ plus 5 Hitachi 1TB Deskstar disks (HDS721010CLA332).

Should I be happy with these Hitachi drives over the Seagates or should I request a change before they ship (even if I need to kick in a few extra bucks)?
