New Around Here
Hi smallnetbuilder.

I'm a homeuser looking for an affordable NAS for my home network. I use Windows 7, XP and an Xbox360 for streaming and gaming. My network is currently 100 Mbit but I want to upgrade it to 1000 Mbit some time next year.
I found two products that I'm torn between. A guy offered me a Synology 409e with two 320 GB drives for about the same price as a brand new Netgear (he wants about $20 less).
How is the performance on the two products? I would probably use one harddrive for backup/mirror so that's why I'm thinking about getting 4-drives but can the 409e mirror just a single drive so I can have one drive for important stuff, two for junk and the last one to mirror the first drive?

Sorry, can't find any references to a Synology 409e, either CS or DS. Can you provide a link?

Both products are in the NAS Charts. The ReadyNAS Duo is somewhat faster than the CS407e.

I think the Synologies can handle multiple volumes. But download the user manual and check to be sure.

Ok cool. At first I could not find the synology but thats probably because I looked for 409e

I'll have another look and thanks again! :)
