Synology Announces Its Second Router

Synology is apparently in the router game to stay, introducing its second router today.

Synology’s new RT2600ac router is a 4x4 AC2600 class router that supports MU-MIMO, smart connect to help optimize connectivity between the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, and dual-WAN support for a combined load balanced bandwidth of up to 2 Gbps. It's powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor.

The RT2600ac is managed through Synology Router Manager (SRM) and provides application layer QoS for better bandwidth management.

The router has two VPN options, "minimal setup" SSL VPN and "VPN Plus Server" add-on package that supports a client-free WebVPN option.

The Synology RT2600ac is available in Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Taiwan now. It will then be available in other regions starting in January, 2017.

I would want to see this router's IPS/IDS in action to compare it to AiProtection, seems like Synology IPS may be even better than AiProtection, but user interaction is obviously better. Not sure if this is different from older version. Layer 4, 7 QoS is also interesting. CPU and RAM seem to improve significantly over RT1900AC.

I likes the looks of it very simple and unassuming. Yet beneath powerful with a 1.7Ghz Dual core and 512mb of ram + 4GB of flash.

Can't wait to see 2 GHz + 1 GB Ram routers but hope hardware encryption is finally on chip.

Always curious why Synology is chasing a low margin/crowded market with a BHR... no matter how good it is, it's hard to get shelf space/mind share on something that they're not not for...

Seems better that they would integrate routing into their NAS units, and perhaps team up with dedicated AP's...

Probably because Synology is a device[+] type of company were their NASs are more than just storage devices. They may be trying the same with their routers.

That sounds like a product they probably still have in the lab makes perfect sense.
