Synology Introduces Value Series 4-Bay Multimedia Center

The DS418play is a new addition to Synology's "Value" series positioned as a home multimedia center.

It runs Synology’s DiskStation Manager OS 6.1 and is powered by Intel’s Celeron J3355 2 GHz dual core processor (with burst up to 2.5 GHz), 2 GB DDR3L RAM (expandable to 6 GB), and supports two channels of H.265/H.264 4K transcoding. The 4-bay NAS supports 3.5” and 2.5” SATA HDDs, 2.5” SATA SSDs, and employs AES-256 encryption to protect data. Supported redundant disk types include RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10, as well as Synology’s Hybrid RAID, basic and JBOD drive configurations.

Interfaces on DS418play include two GbE ports that are link aggregable and two USB 3.0 ports.

The DS418play's MSRP is $429.99 and it will be in stores shortly.

I been looking into getting one of these Synology boxes

But the CPU/SoC is a bit lame other than it's codec accelerators
