What is knology.net? How is the server domain name resolved?

If this is your ISP's network, there isn't a lot you can do.

Tracert suggests that domain name host is on Amazon Web Services via Rackspace.com, a reseller.

Where are you hosting the NAS? If you are actually in the same location then your problem might be that your connections are routed via the ISP. Most common reason could be that your local router would actually be in switched mode.

Your posted output of the trace doesnt in and of itself indicate an issue with the network.
There are only 2 responses that go over 22ms and that can easily be explained as the routers giving ICMP a low priority compared to other data traffic traversing the interface.

There is not enough detailed information in what you provided to know where an issue may lay.
You could have a service on the NAS consuming cpu resources or a webpage that needs fixed or other non external network related reasons.

I was looking at this, and it looks like a bad route inside the ISP - I've seen this before when moving from Juniper to Cisco and how routes are defined (Juniper default routes are implied, whereas cisco it must be defined)
