flashing with this release, do yo.u need to perform factory reset? I heard it has some low level changes? Currently on the latest version

I assume by "latest" you mean 380.64 (since, technically, the latest would be this alpha build). If that's the case then yes, you can directly flash to this test build. You might need to adjust your OpenVPN configuration however (at both ends of the tunnel).

Running without any problems on Rt-68U. Only get this warning with OpenVPN:

openvpn[956]: DEPRECATED OPTION: --client-cert-not-required, use --verify-client-cert instead

Thanks Merlin, yes, am on the 380.64 and in AP mode. I was going to upgrade it to test the new version of the busybox. If I understand correctly, upgrading to 380.65, I do not need to reset to factory? is this correct?

I have been using OpenVPN connect from app store although I believe my android version natively supports VPN on its own. Android 7.1.1 on this phone. The app just gives a convenient front end.

I just installed OpenVPN Connect, and it works as well .without changing OpenVPN configuration on the router. Like you, I like the convenience of the GUI provided by the 3rd-party OpenVPN client. I chose OpenVPN Client over OpenVPN Connect for a couple of reasons:
  1. Supports both TAP and TUN;
  2. Better debug info (logs, etc).
I asked the developer, and he plans to upgrade to OpenVPN 2.4 once it is released.

That's correct.

The OpenVPN devs did a fairly good job dealing in mixed scenarios (i.e. a 2.4 server and a 2.3 client connecting together), it's mostly transparent. The only time issues might potentially happen is when one generates a new .ovpn file under 2.4, and tries to use on a 2.3 client while using 2.4-specific options in the ovpn file. I haven't had the time to test that scenario, but I suspect that it might cause problems under certain scenarios.
