The /tmp directory is made up of the system RAM and is sized at 118Mb... is it possible to adjust this?
I'm running a program which uses a lot of ram, and if making this smaller will free up system, it'll be helpful.

Thanks.

You can adjust the size of tmpfs via "mount -o remount ...", however I don't think it will help. For the memory used by tmpfs grows and shrinks to accommodate the files it contains, so your memory-hungry program will keep hungry even if your minimize tmpfs. See this link for more info.

But you may try, and please tell us what you found.

Ah, ok. that makes sense with the numbers I'm seeing.
Only 3% of the 118MB is being used, so if the tmpfs is resizing itself then there's no need to change it.

Thanks for the info.
