Top-level permissions for SMB share

I have a USB drive connected to my N66U and shared via SAMBA. It appears as

- WD My Passport 0748
--- Passport1TB
------ media
------ MKVs
------ Movies
------ TV

and so on.

When looking at permissions, nothing can be set at the "Passport1TB" level. Because of this, I can't create NEW folders (from Windows). I have to do it from the web-interface of the router. It appears the same on the FTP share tab as well.

How can this be changed ?

This is by design. If you want to share the root of your disk, you need to manually create the share through custom scripts.
