I have a TP-LINK Archer C3150v2, and every now and then the wifi hangs. I've tried every which setting I can think of, and no luck. Any tips, or could the router probably be faulty? Perhaps any other terms to google other than "C3150 wifi hangs"?

By hanging, I mean sometimes I stay connected and it takes 10 seconds for a page to load.

Sometimes, I get an error, like my phone says "internet not available".

Sometimes my phone game drops in the middle of a match.

This is on 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

Any settings to focus on?

Last night, my wife complained about the problem at the same time as I was having issues, so I know it's not my phone's fault, it's the router. I believe I have factory reset before without an improvement.

I have over 20 wireless devices connected. I have about 8 or more hard wired devices connected and no complaints ever on hardwired devices.

What are your Wi-Fi settings? Post them for both bands. Do you have the latest firmware installed?
I have a C3150v2 and have not noticed that in the limited time I used it.

TP-Link sux at firmware updates, I hope it's not that! I have a v1 as a backup and have a leaked beta firmware release because they quit with new releases a year or more before updating to v2.

2.4

Smart Connect off

Wireless radio enable
security WPA/WPA2 Personal
version WPA2-psk
encryption AES
mode 802.11n only
Channel Auto
Channel Width Auto
Trasmit Power High

5

Mode is 802.11/a/n/ac mixed
channel 40
everything else the same

perhaps I should shut off 802.11n only mode? I was under the impression this would make everything run faster as I do not think I have any G or B devices.

My QOS is set to standard.

Don’t set the channels to auto. Stick with 1, 6 or 11 for the 2.4ghz. Whichever is least used around you and has the fewest overlap from adjacent channels. Channel width 20mhz.
I can’t remember the options.

Same with the 5ghz. Try to use the upper channels if possible.

My house is pretty far from everyone else, I do not pick up my neighbors WiFi at all. I am going to set it to a particular channel though, so it won't try to change channels while actively using it now that I think about it.

I agree with the 2.4 settings which I only use on my tablet and phone. But for my TV and laptop I use auto on 5 because of interference problems with the neighbors. The interference problem never seems to get resolved. We may all be on auto and when the channels conflict a change is necessary so cannot stay with just one, the auto settings changes channels accordingly. I have found this to be the best compromise here. Still get a bit of buffering when the channel changes though.

I feel like an idiot. Turns out the culprit was the DNS server I was using. They touted 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 to be super fast and having privacy. I should have known because downloads were fast, it was just the initial loading taking time. Changed to my isp DNS and everything was back to normal. Now I'm using Google DNS.

try reducing the power, particularly on the 2.4Ghz channel
I had a problem in 2.4 with the power on high, use med now. High seemed to be very high compared to the output of my Asus causing issues with the neighbors.
