Hi
I've had exactly the same error, where no data is showing in the per IP monitoring page. I did once see a pie chart for the data when the Merlin firmware was first loaded, and at that point there was no data for the chart to report (it was a single solid red pie).

Using Mozilla in the console I see a java error: "unreachable code after return statement[Learn More] help.js:40"
Using IE11 no java errors show in console

I've tried PCs and ipads, same issue. The global data comes up fine, but the Per IP data is blank

Edit: router is Asus RT-N66u, firmware is Merlin 380.66_4

You're talking about something different. This thread is about IPTraffic (aka Traffic Monitor per device), which doesn't display as a pie chart. It is the Traffic Analyser that shows a pie chart.

Thanks for replying Colin
However Traffic monitor per device is exactly what I'm talking about. Sorry, I should have been clearer on that.
First time I ventured to this section it was an odd pie chart I saw.
Now the attached image is what I see (same essentially as original post I think)

Thanks for the clarification @rwps. There are few reports of problems with this but I'm not sure anybody has got to the bottom of it.

From what I've read the things to check are:
1. Make sure your LAN is 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 (the default)
2. Make sure you're storing the traffic history on a USB stick and not in RAM
3. Make sure you have created/reset the data files for BOTH type of data (normal and IPTraffic)
4. After resetting the data files reboot the router and make sure "Enable IPTraffic (per IP monitoring)" and "Monitor all IPs by default" are still set to Yes.
5. Monitor the syslog to see if there are any error messages about rstats or cstats.

Other than that I'm out of ideas.

Thanks Colin
I've checked off all of your suggestions (except LAN, I don't want to change my LAN). And no joy
I can see that the database file on the usb is being written to as its modify time keeps updating. Just the ASUS GUI not showing the data

OK. If you get the opportunity to change the LAN setting, even only for 10 minutes, it would be useful to determine if it's related to 192.168.1.x. The only reason I say that is because this post said it was fixed after a factory reset and leaving the LAN setting at the default.

Can you confirm that you are seeing both data files. The rstats file contains the global data and the cstats file contains the IPTraffic data.

I Changed the LAN setting and it is all working well now. Making it 192.168.1.1 was the fix.
Very annoying though as I have had to reconfigure my whole network to get this function to work - a bug that can be fixed hopefully.

Yes both data files were there, as above the LAN was the culprit

Colin, thankyou so much. You were spot on and very helpful!

Thanks for getting back to us. That's really useful information that will hopefully help others with this problem.

Is your network a normal /24 (i.e. 192.168.1.xyz)?
@RMerlin Is this something you could look into perhaps?

Would require redesigning part of how networkmap is implemented. And since Asus decided to make networkmap closed source with 382...

OK thanks for the explanation, I'd assumed that IPTraffic (Traffic Monitor) was a completely standalone function and not dependent on networkmap. At least we now know the reason.

IPTraffic has nothing to do with Networkmap. Networkmap is the one that's hardcoded to a /24.

Sorry. I must have missed the point somewhere.

The issue with IPTraffic data not showing in the GUI appears to be caused by people not using the default subnet (which you yourself suggested might be a possible cause). In response to me asking whether it was possible for it to be fixed you said:

So I think we've got our wires crossed somehow.

I was just trying to gather as much information as possible. A non-standard subnet could have pointed at a possible mis-configuration (some people for instance will mix up /24 and /8 on their 10.0.0.0 network, which can create all kind of issues).

Hello

I am not seeing the traffic monitor options in the Merlin firmware 380.66_6 (installed yesterday). I have configured Traffic Monitor in Tools - Other Settings (See attached screenshots) and the file is being written to a USB disk plugged into the router I am running the RT-N66U in Repeater Mode and it takes its IP Address and DNS Addresses from the gateway router which forces its local address to be 192.168.1.1. Is the Traffic monitor, specifically the graphic displays shown here supported in Repeater Mode?

Thanks,

Clive

@cliverlong Traffic Monitor is not available in Repeater Mode.
@ColinTaylor
Thanks for the very prompt, and clear reply, Colin.

Not a deal-breaker - would have been interesting to look at.

This Merlin firmware has made USB attached disk reliably accessible over SMB whereas even the latest version of the stock firmware I could only get access to the files by setting access to "guest". Also reliability of repeater connection to the router gateway has much improved.

I have made a small donation.

Many thanks,

Clive

So I had the same issue with nothing showing up and I finally got it to show up correctly. After trying everything (playing with settings, re-configuring network to 192.168.1.x, etc) it still didn't work. What DID work is setting "Display advanced filter options:" to Yes and "Display hostnames:" to No. At least in my network it was breaking when trying to do lookups. Everything displayed correctly after setting that option. Created a new account to post this in case anyone else is having the same issue.

Can someone share a successful output/display of this IP Traffic monitoring? (Several examples have been posted of a failed result and the corresponding config options.)

I am considering setting up this functionality to monitor all traffic of all devices - as I occasionally am losing connections on critical devices as the network is running out of bandwidth.

I'd like to identify which devices are causing this failure - and I think IP Traffic monitoring would be the most reliable method to review which traffic usage spiked at the same time I had an outage on a critical device.

Also - on a related note - not all devices on my network show up in the Client List or Adaptive QoS interface - so this may help understand the traffic some of these devices are actually using. (Getting them to display in Adaptive QoS for prioritization is another challenge...)

I just installed Merlin (380.68_4) and I had the same issue, nothing showing up under Traffic Monitor per Device. The settings above worked for me, at least for the real time display. I am still not seeing any by-device results in the Daily charts but perhaps I have to wait until the data is populated. I did set the save frequency to 1h in tools/other settings at least intially thinking I might see results sooner.

Router: Asus RT-N66R
LAN is 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 (the default)
Storing the traffic history on a USB stick and not in RAM
Created/reset the data files for BOTH type of data (normal and IPTraffic)

I have not yet tried rebooting the router and checking to see that "Enable IPTraffic (per IP monitoring)" and "Monitor all IPs by default" are still set to Yes.

I have not yet monitored the syslog to see if there are any error messages about rstats or cstats.
