I am considering installing transmission, but have two questions;

1. Can downloads be started and controlled remotely?

2. Is it possible to setup transmission to download from sites (torrent) that are blocked by my ISP?

1. yes is possible if you also enable ddns check the transmission thread https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Installing-Transmission-through-Entware

2 . i dont know ..... my guess is you cannot but i might be wrong.

I'm in the UK where the courts have ordered most ISP's to block certain torrent sites, unfortunately, and with my ISP (VM), I'm getting 120mbps down, which I like, a lot! On my PC I use UltraSurf, which works great, didn't know if it was possible to setup transmission to use a VPN to bypass any ISP blocks.

Do you know how this block is implemented? They might have gone the easy way and just blocked it at the DNS level - try using a different DNS server (such as Google's 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4).

Otherwise, you will need a VPN tunnel. No idea if the Transmission client running locally on the router will use a tunnel out of the box.
