Trying to get NAT loopback working on RT-AC68U

Ian Manning

I've been trying to get NAT loopback working on my RT-AC68U, but have had no luck. I'm running Merlin 378.56_2, but have also tried 380.57. I want to access IP cameras and web servers on my LAN using their WAN addresses, but despite enabling NAT Loopback I am unable to do so.

I am using the RT-AC68U as a DHCP server and gateway. I have my Sky Hub (ASDL modem/router) connected to the WAN port of the Asus, with the Asus configured as the DMZ on the Sky Hub.

When connected to a 3G network I have no problem accessing my IP cameras and web sites using their WAN addresses, so port forwarding is all working fine.

If I try to access IP cameras using their WAN address from an Android phone on the LAN the connection fails. If I try to access a web server on the LAN using the WAN address I get directed to the console page of the Sky Modem/Router.

I've tried:
- Both Merlin and Asus NAT Loopback
- Disabling NAT acceleration
- Disabling/enabling the firewall
- Disabling/enabling port forwarding.

I did a factory reset and two power cycles when flashing Merlin (as advised elsewhere on this forum), but I still have the problem.

Prior to introducing the RT-AC68U to my setup I was having no problems. I was using the Sky Hub as the DHCP server and gateway, and was able to access all of my IP cameras and web sites using their WAN addresses.

Can anyone advise on how/whether I can get NAT Loopback working on the RT-AC68U?

I think the issue is the DMZ. Can you bridge the skyhub properly?

I think the issue is the DMZ. Can you bridge the skyhub properly?

I think so. The Sky Hub is on 192.168.2.1, and the Asus on 192.168.1.1. The LAN devices are all on 192.168.1.*, and I can access the Sky Hub from a PC on the LAN. Is that what you meant?

No.

What is the WAN address that the Asus reports? If it is a private address (192.168.x.x) then you are not bridged.

The WAN address on the Asus is listed as 192.168.2.7. Any idea how I can bridge the Sky Hub correctly?

Probably easiest to call your ISP.

Uh-oh....previous experience with Sky support suggests that I may not have any luck :0(

If that doesn't work, try googling 'how to bridge a skyhub router' or similar.
