after reading the previous 2 posts, i found myself wondering if "john" had a bad one or perhaps it was time for an update wit ma readin' skills, cause i'm picking up goo-gobs of positives on the ax86u. saw this headline and was wondering if perhaps i could get by with less of an upgrade. then, tech9 chimes in and i was gonna give him my 2 cents about "toys" and the waste of money; but before i replied, i looked in the mirror and got embarrassed!

i'm a hd/sw guy with 40yrs. been retired now for several and i'm rebuilding my desktop cause i've been bored. the i5 i had ran fine even with the 2 games i rarely play and the so-so gpu but i recently decided to go i7 and rtx-3070. why? cause i'm CRAZY bored or BORED crazy! what tech9 wrote about a new toy was spot on.

i'm good enough with code and a pc but not so much with routers. sure i can make them work well enough and thanks to merlinware and this forum, my knowledge has improved. i'd like to increase the range of my ac-86u (original model) which has been spectacular! everything works fine but i'm hoping that a stronger signal will result in better throughput for 1 of our 5 4k tvs that's rarely used. no buffering on it mind u, but it bothers me that the 2.4 radio is stronger. could care less about our iphones as u don't need speed for a text and we use laptop/desktop screens for the serious browsing.

so yeah, tech9's read me out, loud and clear. having my discipline on another medium doesn't make me any less guilty. hell, i go back to when networking was called "tp" - teleprocessing. we knew the huge box would serialize data and send it out over a phone line but the innards always required special talent.

. . . my ax86u is "on its way but if the signal boost is insignificant, it's going back to amazon.
