Two Routers Can't Get Bridge Mode Working on the GPON

New Around Here
I have two routers connected in series. One is a GPON with crap connectivity. It only supports 802.11 ac. It has a GPON but I can't get tech support for the life of me to give me the correct data to get PPPoE working over bridge mode.

Those issues aside - I have the external router set to give the internal router a static IP and DMZ to that IP. The internal router is showing Open NAT on my Xbox so no issues there. I only keep wifi access enabled on the external router in case I need to log in. Could I disable NAT on the external router or would that have some effect on the internal router? Not looking for pros or cons really, just can it be done without affecting internet that is being provided by the internal router.
