Try this. It's instructions on how to install Knoppix, a open source troubleshooting Linux distro, on a USB and then boot from is on your laptop. You don't need to know anything about how Knoppix works, just see if you can boot with it and get online. If not, it's a problem with the NIC, my guess would be one or more of the pins for the ethernet twisted pair is bent or damaged and the NIC can't fully establish a duplexed connection on it. If you DO get online with Knoppix, then it's a driver issue, and we can look back into that.

If it does end up being a driver issue (which I am doubting at this time) then make sure to update your drivers. Your screenshot shows you running 12.15.25.6712 while the latest for Windows 10 are 22.7.1 and AsRock suggest at least 20.2. So you are atleast 8 revisions behind. What's odd is that the driver date doesn't match the driver version. My guess is that's the default hardware driver Windows installs for Intel. You want to install the one from Intel instead.

Oddly enough, installing the most "current" driver from intel actually is much older than the driver that was on the computer previously. SS for clarification

Ahh, ok, I think I understand. I am looking at the Intel driver installer version, but the driver is showing the actual NIC driver version. So how does one find out what the latest intel NIC driver is? I don't like when manufacturers do "install packages". AMD does it too and it's annoying IMO. Any Intel experts out there?

In the meantime, you think you want to try the Knoppix USB? There are other versions and ways of putting in on a CD if that is easier. If you have system restore and can restore back before the problem happened, that might be a option too. It depends on how nuclear you want to go before isolating it's a hardware problem or not for sure.

I’m currently cleaning up a USB to install the Linux os on it. I also ordered an external Ethernet adapter from amazon as well lol. 1 way or another we’re gonna solve this madness

Yea, sorry it's taking longer then I thought. I called GG too early. :( I really thought we had it when I saw two ethernet into the bridged gateway.

Getting this when following the above listed steps ? do i need to download a .iso first ?

I haven't actually used that installer, it was just the first one that came up in google. I think you need to check the "Download link" box to download the ISO from pendrivelinux.com. If you can't get it to work, try the official steps instead.

A couple other things I was thinking you could try while working on that. They are things that only work 1:100,000 but they are easy to do so worth a shot. First, as stupid as this sounds, try turning the ethernet around. Another words, unplug the RJ45 from the PC and plug that end into the router instead, and visa versa. This tests if one of the RJ45 male pins pushed down slightly on the female port in the NIC. This can happen over time or during troubleshooting from unplugging/replugging the ethernet over and over.

The other thing to try is to have the desktop plugged into a different electrical wall socket then the router. Not just a different power strip or different outlet on the two outlet face plate, but a entirly different face plate/outlet. This isolates for any possible power or ground issue. Maybe the reason why laptops are working plugged into the ethernet is because they run on battery and not ground connected AC like a desktop.

Last, unplug the 3 USB from the PC and reboot. This is assuming you don't need the keyboard/mouse to log in. If you do, try booting into BIOS and seeing the state of ethernet there. Depends on the BIOS, but some have ethernet options related to network boot. The reason your testing without the USB is incase there is some kind of power drain issue where the board doesn't have enough power for the NIC. Highly unlikely, but worth a shot.

Not sure if I’m happy about this or not but even running knoppix the computer wouldn’t connect to the Ethernet adapter. Going to say it’s safely a NIC issue, which means either a new motherboard or a external adapter

Have you looked at the pins inside the female ethernet jack on the NIC? Does anything look bent/burned/dusty/damaged? Also, do you happen to have a 3foot or less ethernet you can try with? It seems to be able to atleast make a 10Mbps connection, so maybe with a shorter ethernet it can make a 100Mbps connection rate. You could also play around with the manual duplex modes. However in the end, that will only show you what the problem is and not fix it.

When you say wouldn't connect, do you mean it wasn't getting a IP, wasn't seeing the ethernet plugged in, or wasn't seeing the NIC adapter at all?

Does the connection change if you disconnect the ethernet from the port? Like if you boot without the ethernet plugged in, does the NIC show as disconnected but otherwise normal? Also, is the ethernet in use a normal premade CAT5e? Have you tried a different ethernet cord? Even if that one was confirmed working with the laptop the ethernet could still be damaged somehow that only effects certain kind of link negotiation. The fact that it's even able to try to identify the network makes me think Knoppix can talk to the NIC, so it doesn't sound like the chip for the NIC itself is the issue. If anything, the problem seems more with the port.

Could you give some more context on when this problem began? It's looking more like a hardware issue, but then I thought the problem started around the upgrade to Windows 10. Did you make any other hardware changes when you upgraded to Windows 10? Do you O.C. your CPU or RAM? Also, any other odd problems around the time your lost ethernet connection? For instance, you said you used a USB microphone, is that because the internal microphone I/O stopped working? Any storms, brownouts, or issues with the power to the PC?

If I disconnect from the port I get the “network cable is unplugged” error. It started right after I upgraded to windows 10. None of my hardware is currently OC’ed. Also I use a usb headset because im an avid pc gamer and prefer that over the standard one.

Do you have standard microphone or stereo headset you can try on one of the red/green/blue sound I/O underneath the ethernet port on the back of the desktop? If there was some kind of blown transistor or damage from a surge, you would probably literally hear it from those ports as well. It might sound like a low background hum or sharp specks of static. If you confirm that is having issues, then buying a external NIC might not be worth the time since the whole motherboard might die soon.

Is the desktop home built. store bought, or something inbetween? It looks to use a high end motherboard yet I see the Windows sticker on it like a retail unit. BTW, you might want to edit that picture just to make sure no one sneaky grabs it. Or just take the photo down as it isn't relevant anymore to the issue. The picture of the back is still helpful though. Could you take a closer picture of the inside of the ethernet port with a flashlight? Or maybe one of the motherboard itself? I am morbidly curious by nature, but I understand if you prefer to work with what has been posted already.

Also can you show some of the other tabs as seen in the picture you posted here? Specifically the Link Speed tab but there looks like a lot of advanced settings. If this IS directly related to the Windows 10 update, maybe one of those settings conflicts or was changed with a MS update. If you see any way to "reset to defaults" anywhere in the UI, try that.

Also, it might help to look at a Minitoolbox log. It's a tool from BC.com that collects logs and some other data for troubleshooting. The ones I would be curious about are IP configuration, winsock, last 10 errors, devices with problems, and restore points (for update timestamps). A list of installed programs would help too, but is a bit more revealing in a privacy way.

PS. Are there any rules about what I am allowed to ask people to run or what they are allowed to post? I know some forums frown on huge log posts.
