Updated to 384_6, IOS Asus app no longer works

I was on one of the 380 releases. Did the update, cleared settings, hand typed them all in with screen captures. Router works great! Seems to be better in several ways, however, one thing that no longer works is the official Asus app on IOS, it can no longer connect to the router.

The router has the same SSID as before, same IP, etc. But it refuses to connect, so, decided to delete the app and re-install to clear out old settings from the app. Now, it simply says "No ASUS router found".

I suppose one can always use the web interface, however, the app presented some info in a better way than the web interface. Not sure what broke it, perhaps a new setting. Any ideas? Not a huge deal, but would like to use it if possible.

The first question is... does it work with the stock firmware? If it doesn’t work with that, then it likely won’t work with Merlin’s firmware either.

I’m running 384_6 on my 88U and the app works fine.

Best guess is some DDNS issue? Do you have remote access via WAN allowed? If so it may be messing with its ability to connect trying to do some funky NAT loopback stuff.

Ensure GUI WAN access off, delete the app, re install, add the router to the app from scratch.

I'd say, consider it a blessing.

A word of advise: do not expose your router to WAN for communication with the ASUS app (or anything else, besides VPN for that matter). It's a major security risk.

Check the FAQ, specifically the Security section at the bottom, 'Q: My router got hacked'. The same goes for usage of the ASUS app as it has opened access to the WebUI from the Web. Asus might have fixed this specific issue in the meantime, but many users have reported issues, so disable WAN access to your router. Check Administration > Settings > Remote Access Config > Enable WEB access from WAN: No. The same goes for SSH with password, it's not secure. Best practice is to keep everything closed, unless you really need access from outside, then choose to run a VPN Server.
