I followed the advice on the forum and got my AC68U running remerlin on it about a year ago. I have to say that it is great. I like it a lot.

I am running 376.47 with firmware 3.0.0.4.376.47_0. I see there are many updates since then and i am experiencing a few minor issues, so I thought I would upgrade. So my questions are about the upgrade process. I have a lot of custom settings, including jffs, some "config.add" files, and more.

I just don't want to have to do all that config manually again, partially because I may not even remember it all.

So is the upgrade process documented anywhere? I searched the forum but didn't see it.

If I do a settings backup in the UI, does that include everything, including things like scripts/jffs stuff?

I am assuming that after uploading the new firmware, you are supposed to do a factory default settings wipe, correct?

After the default settings, can I import all of my settings or is it manual entry only?

I went to the download page and I saw that the latest version (378.54) has 2 different zip files. I read the readme on both but I don't know which I should use or why.

Yes, I've got the same concerns, especially with this question: "After the default settings, can I import all of my settings or is it manual entry only?"

This FAQ will answer your questions on factory default reset.

As far as /jffs goes, it is your responsibility to back it up.

I support a tool to make the transition easier. You may want to see if it's something you feel comfortable trying.

yeah I highly recommend john's tool but as always still try to have a backup just incase things dont goto plan, but his tool makes life a lot easier.

Thanks for the info, and the heads-up on John's tool!

I am going to try that tool. What version of rmerlin do I use? I see there's 2 different downloads for each version.

So just to be clear, I am planning to do this process:

- Use backup tool to backup all config and save it to the jffs usb and my computer.
- Use the UI to load the new firmware.
- Use the UI to reset to factory defaults.
- Use script to restore all settings.

Does this look correct?

Take the 378.54_2.zip from the top-level under RT-AC68U for Merlin's latest....

And, added one more step for completeness

- Use backup tool to backup all config and save it to the jffs usb and my computer.
- Use the UI to load the new firmware.
- Use the UI to reset to factory defaults.
- Use the UI to enable telnet or ssh
- Use script to restore all settings.

And for prep ...plan for the unexpected :)...
- Do a save configuration from the gui on your current code level (easiest way to go back to the current level in case of a problem)
- Have a copy of your current code level available
