Modem MB7621 (on the recommend list for 400 tier) [this replaced the MB7420]
RT-AC88U

Dell OptiPlex 3010

Just upgraded from the 200 tier to the 400 tier. I'm getting the same wireless speeds as b4 I upgraded the tier. I confirmed with Spectrum I'm on the 400 tier.

from the speedtest.net site I'm getting avg 216Mbps download and 23.5 upload.

When I used the old modem MB7420 I didn't get any signal loss. Now with the new modem MB7621 I get anywhere from .03% to the highest Ive seen of 1.3%. This is all wirelessly sitting 5 feet from the router.

The modem eithernet light on modem changes from flashing green while connected to the router to flashing orange when plugged into the pc. and connot connect to internet.

When I plug the pc into the eithernet port on router Im only getting 95 upload and 11 download
Wireless I'm getting the exact same speeds a b4 with the 200 tier.

I am running Asuswrt-merlin 384.12

not sure what to do next??

Either the Ethernet cable or your PC's network interface card is only rated for 100Mbps, not gigabit. Or you have a faulty Ethernet cable.

Try a different cable that's Cat5e or better.

You seem to be reporting two different issues here. One for WiFi speeds, and one for wired speeds.

WiFi
We need to know more about the device being used. Are you on 2.4GHz or 5GHz? What channel? How wide of a channel (20, 40, 80)? How many streams is the client capable of (1x1, 2x2, etc)?

Wired
For sure sounds like you have an Ethernet port that is rated only 100Mbps or the cable quality is limiting it to 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps. Swap some cables out and test again. And/Or see if you can get access to a different PC to test with.

Had the cable company come out. He was getting 487 Mbps with the wired.

I was using 5 ghz. iPad Pro 10.5”. I’m out of town now once I get home I can pull all the other info up. And I’ll report back

Cable guy hooked up his router and was getting 340mbps wirelessly with his equipment. Said I may have a problem with router setting.

Also have a question. I have a bunch of smart devices on the router 2.4ghz. I also have my old ASUS ac67u in the basement which acts like a wireless bridge ( extender) for down stairs. Should I hook up the second router wired and then connect all the smart devices wirelessly through the older router to free up the main router?

Instead of us playing a guessing game, why dont you create a full network map with the layout and all devices and their lan/wlan connection/locations and their lan/wlan nominal interface bandwidth ( wireless N 300, lan 100, etc). It will help you and help us make reasonable suggestions.

Should I just post a screenshot of the network map? Is it ok to have it and MAC address on the screen shot?

Photoshop out the MAC addresses if desired. Mainly they need to know your wireless settings. To get your full speed you should be using 5ghz, 80MHz only. See these attached screenshots as an example for settings that should get you max performance. I have 300/30 internet. I’m getting what I’m paying for

I guess you know the speed is the same, but the bandwidth is greater. You do not get lower latency with higher bandwidth connections. I wish. I would buy a higher tier. If you want low latency get AT&T gig fiber. Cable can't compete with fiber as far as latency.

I wish I had fiber here locally. I am jealous of the low latency. Cable is the best thing available :(

Here are the 5ghz settings

For a minor tweak - I’d turn off universal beamforming, it is a non-standard way to do beamforming and likely is giving no benefit. Keep the AC beamforming.

Looks like your settings are decent otherwise. Make sure your iPad and laptop “forget” the 2.4ghz WiFi network. 2.4ghz and 5 ghz should be different SSIDs if they aren’t already. Your iPad especially should be able to do 400 mbps on 5ghz.

I’d set up your old router with a wired connection like you described. I’d use the same SSIDs (2.4 and 5ghz) as your main router and have them share the load for your devices.

Reset your QoS limits - ran into that myself with a BW upgrade about a couple of years ago - so my next bump was pretty straight forward...
