Hi, just got hold of a long lusted-after RT-AC86U when it went on sale last week. I'm now wondering what would constitute the best way to transfer the settings from my current RT-AC68U? Would something like these excellent instructions (for upgrading from 380 to 384 branch) work?
Only caveat is, I'd probably stick with the non-Merlin firmware on the AC86U for now, since I want to check out whether AiMesh is any good...
Thanks!

When setting up the router it’ll tell you if there is a update. Just do the update whilst setting up. (It’ll do it automatically) After the update, restore to factory defaults and them manually insert your settings.

Can I import NVRAM settings from the AC68U? I'm thinking mainly of static DHCP addresses, I'm assuming the format is the same between the two models?

I wouldn’t to be honest. Yes it’s a pain but I would rather do it all manually. Especially because you are going to another router.

NO you cant, completly different plattform. Config by hand.

I just replaced my Primary (68U) for a black friday 86U. On the 86U, I upgraded the f/w to Merlin's and manuallly entered the settings. Just have one browser window up on the 68U on one laptop and another for the 86U on a 2nd laptop, it goes fast. I actually printed the manual DHCP client list and DNSFilter list, did the DNSFilter and the manual DHCP entries while the 86U was in operation as the Primary since it makes it easier to have the clients connected to configure. Took me less than an hour.

Do Not load in settings from your 68U or another model.

The 68U is now is running in Repeater mode though many of the settings are not visible by default in the gui when in this mode, have to use direct links.
