[USA] Considering a move to ATT Fiber. Anyone use this setup and willing to answer a few questions?

I am considering moving to ATT Fiber as the upload speed is significantly faster and the price is the same as my cable internet. However, I am worried about my network gettin' all out of whack with the change.

Can I simply put the ATT Gateway in IP-Passthrough mode, connect my current RT-AC88U, and have all my devices pick back up where they left off? Or will some changes in the router need to be made that result in me having to reconnect all my wireless devices?

I have one mesh node, lots of devices with static IPs, and a NAS. I also have some NEST devices that are all working well and it would be less-than-pleasant to get them up and running again (staring at you, Nest Connect/Yale Locks).

Any information from people who have ATT Fiber and this generation of Asus router would be helpful! Thanks!

ATT gateway is hardcoded to 192.168.1.254 so move everything off of 192.168.1.0/24 if that is what you use.

+ DHCPS-fixed (use MAC from WAN on your router).

Reboot gateway and router. You will get a public IP address in the asus GUI if passthrough is working correctly. It will function just like cable did.

ipv6 note - ATT only gives out a /64 prefix. You can request up to 8 if you use vlans. No clue how to do that in default asus firmware.
So, if my networked devices are all 192.168.1.###...those will all have to be changed?

Likely not - you can put things into what they refer to as DMZ+
 
And FIWW - their supplied Residential Gateway likely will out perform most consumer gear for wireless and LAN...

Nobody wants to hear it, but rings true..

Are you in an area with Spectrum or Comcast? They are both implementing higher upload speeds around the country. Spectrum recently lit up high-split in my neighborhood and I went from 500/20 to 500/500. I could go 1000/1000 for $10 more but I have no need for it right now. Maybe you are in one of these areas but if not I don't blame you for moving.
 
I had a well established LAN and was not about to change all the non-DHCP devices to a different subnet, so I changed the Gateway. If I need to I can get to it from the LAN but I've rarely ever needed to.

Pass-through mode in my case, and my AX88u vastly out performs the BGW210 I have, and the Nephew's BGW320 (connected right to it) in range and performance. Even removing the the mesh nodes in my case, for the other side of the house for range, it outperforms the AT&T BGW210/BGW320. Wireless on the BGW320, using 5Ghz can barely cross the wall to get to the wireless DirecTV stream (Osprey) boxes in the next room. 2.4Ghz wasn't that much better.

Wired, can't really tell with the small number of devices on the BGW320. On the AX88u with QoS off, and wired, getting 940Mbps in both directions, with QoS on about 1/2 of that but with symmetrical 1GB, who needs QoS. That bandwith is likely overkill but it makes for very nice Zoom Cconferences when the Wife and I are working from home. Even with that, plus two 4K streams running at the same time, plus other usage, everything just works. WiFi on the iPhone 14 ProMax on average, 650Mbps more or less...

Set it up once and haven't needed to mess with it. Still have access to it via the AT&T Smarthome app but only use it for Speedtests (rarely). I have Wireless disabled on the BGW210, not much else to use their Apps for. Good Luck!
