Quick config info. Asus RT-AC68U, fw 384.10.2. I use a USB external Seagate HD, formatted in ext3 format.

I use the router as a minor file server with the USB HD, and generally don't have issue ever. Working on the whole for at least a year. Over the past few months, I have found that occasionally, my USB HD spontaneously disconnects and is unmounted by the Asus. It generally only happens when I'm downloading a large file. I don't think I'm overly connected to it, but have no real way of tracking what has happened. All will be fixed when I reboot the router and HD, but my wife doesn't like being interrupted when that's what I have to do.

The first few months, the HD was formatted FAT and I never had an issue. SNB helped me with a different issue and it was recommended to consider ext format. I did. Only since then have I had this problem maybe once or twice a month. I mention it, because it could be correlated or just coincidence.

Any information I can provide to help track down if it is a firmware problem, configuration problem, connection problem or user error in some way? I've included the relevate date/time for the syslog.txt at the time of the issue.

Thanks in advance for time spent helping me.

Looks like a hardware issue rather that software. Replace to USB cable. Check for loose or dirty USB sockets. The vibration caused by the USB drive being put under load might be enough to create an intermittent connection.

This is just a hunch...

Many external Seagate drives do not play well with linux when using UASP/UAS (SCSI over USB). If you have a linux desktop you can try attaching it there and see it this applies to you.
Here are a few links about the issue (info is kind of spread out in a lot of different places on forums but I think these will get you started on the right track).
