New Around Here
I use a USB hard drive enclosure with WD 1TB green drive inside.
After plug in the USB drive it works well. But after long time no access to the hard drive, the USB hard drive stop working and can not be active again.
The USB light on the router is off. On the web GUI, it shows no USB device.
Then I unplug the hard drive power and could make it work again.
I think it's because of the WD green drive went to sleep cause the problem.
I try the stock firmware (v270) and the Merlin firmware (v270b4). They all have the same problem.
Is anybody else have this problem? And how can I fix it or find a work around?

I believe there's a tool to disable the Caviar Green's aggressive power management. Check through Google, it should be easy to find.

Problem fixed

The problem was fixed by disable the WD hard drive head park timer.
If anybody is using the WD green hard drive and have similar problem, google the wdidle3 and disable the WD hard drive head park time.
Thanks Merlin for your excellent firmware and your help.

I am having the same symptoms but with a WD My passport 2 Tb, original NTFS format, using the lastest firmware 3.0.0.4.354 on router and i also updated the firmware version on the hdd, also i ran the check disk utiity from WD (the complete one, it took 4-5 hours to complete and didnt find any errors).

All the functions in the router seems to works well, i can transfer files on the router shared folder from my macbook or pc without problems ( until it stops working for no apparent reason, even when not copying anything to it ).

When i connect the HDD on my macbook or my computer, its capable of transferring files without issues.

Does anyone have clue of what should i do?
