USB Hub

I'm using a Bluecave router on an AIMesh with an AC RT68U. I use the USB to tether a mobile device for internet.

I was running a HDD on the slave RT68U, but since a rebuild it doesn't work due to permissions. As the bluecave only has a single USB I was wondering if a powered USB 3.0 hub would work with both a HDD and tethered mobile modem plugged in?

If I don't suppose using backhaul would change things, allowing me to use the USB ports on the RT AC68 for HDD effectively?

That may be a possibility, but I do not know for sure.
