Very new to networking

New Around Here
Please explain things in detail if you have an answer. I am very new to networks and tried to use apple iCloud as a mass storage device. Since it links to the desktop, 2TB is of now use since it clogs up my 1TB drive on my M2 Max MBP. I do video and photo editing as a hobby and have an OWC Onvoy Thunderbolt 3-4. I use it for one project then transfer the project back to storage. Since I don't have a computer at home that stays awake, I can't attach mass storage to access remotely.

Just spitballing, but I have an old 2008 Western Digital My book live 1TB that still has the old HDD that works. Can I go into that thing and replace the HDD with an SSD? Have you guys ever tried that?

I am looking into raid arrays but from what I understand, you need a server. I may have access to an old Mac mini. I now apple dropped X serve, but is having an old mac mini plugged into RAID array and option.

I do want to know if the My book live idea will work.

Thanks for you help.
