VoIP working intermittently with VPN client active on Asus RT-AC66U

I am using a Linksys/Cisco SPA-2102 ATA adaptor connected to a VoIP service, which works perfectly normally. If I connect the VPN client on the Asus RT-AC66U using the asuswrt-merlin firmware, the service works sometimes (dial tone/calling) and then stops. The VPN server I am connecting to supports VoIP, so I am wondering if it is something to do with the routing and/or NAT on the Linksys when the VPN client is active? The Linksys creates its own LAN subnet and treats the local network as a WAN, and uses NAT. Could the Asus be treating the Linksys traffic differently when the VPN client is active?

Any suggestions warmly received!
 
Hello,

Yes, you need to selectively route your VOIP to use your ISP instead of the VPN. I am not sure whats going on on the server end of things. I always figured the VOIP provider doesn't like connections coming from strange IPs, but that is just conjecture.
