My kid is pretty smart and although parental controls prevent him from installing a VPN app on his iPad, he enter in VPN credentials directly from the iPad native VPN settings.

The thing is, when he’s connected to the VPN I’m not even aware as his device will not show up in the device list when using the ASUS app.

Why would his device not show?

Probably because he`s on cellular rather than on Wifi.

I don't know if the behavior reported by the OP is VPN-specific or not. I actually don't know if the VPN-connected clients should show on the "clients list" or not.
If they are supposed to show, - this problem might be related to what I just reported in a new thread : some local devices are not showing among the connected clients.
