VPN Newbie

Hi, im new to all this Vpn business and am after a little advice. Im running IPTV and decided to use a vpn, ive got a Nord VPN account and got it all setup and its working ok but the speed it drops alot. Ive got an Asus RT-N66U router and set up a Open VPN so everything connected is via the vpn the problem is as soon as i use anything else it affects the performance of the IPTV. My question is can i set up so my hardwired IPTV is the only item running through the VPN? or anyone know of any ways to improve performance via the VPN ive tried numerous TCP and UDP servers but no joy.

Install Merlin's customized firmware and set up selective routing so only IPTV uses VPN.

The N66 doesn't have a powerful enough processor to get much more than 15 - 20 Mbps downloads using a VPN. Search the forum and you will get a good idea of what hardware it takes to get higher or much higher speeds.

Brilliant, many thanks for the reply. Ive already got Merlin installed so will look into it. Im getting around max of 8Mbps download via Vpn and around 30Mbps without. I may have to go for something with a faster processor, i was a bit dubious about the processor speed in the N66U Router and thought about getting something better but didnt want to go down that route and realise it is actually Nord throttling it.

Your VPN provider normally doesn't become a limiting factor until you approach or try to exceed 100Mbps download speeds while using the VPN tunnel.

What do you mean by IPTV? Are there specific domains/IP addresses you want to route through VPN?
