WD My Cloud Mirror and Asus AC87U

x861

New Around Here
My WD NAS is having issues connecting directly to my Asus AC87U. The ethernet connection is not being detected by the NAS. The NAS' ethernet port has LEDs and these LEDs stay off when connected to the router.

I am forced to use a switch as a go-in-between the NAS and router to get the NAS onto my network. I want to cut down the amount of cabling, so I am wondering if there's a way to get the NAS directly connected to the router.

I have contacted WD support, but they were not helpful. Others also had similar problem but the fix to use a switch (https://community.wd.com/t/cant-connect-my-cloud-using-att-uverse-1gig-fiber-service/140412/34).
I currently am running Asuswrt-Merlin 380.61 (the latest one).
I also have UPNP enabled, alongside UPNP port-forwarding for all ports in the range of 1-65535 for both WAN and LAN. I am not sure what is going wrong.

When I connect the NAS to the switch, I immediately get this in the logs:
Code:
Aug 5 10:35:00 dnsmasq-dhcp[436]: DHCPDISCOVER(br0) 192.168.1.46 00:90:a9:e7:c9:a4

From what you describe it may be a bad port or cable. Try a new CAT 5e or 6 cable. Try other ports on the router till you get a link light on both the router and nas. I have a WD my book live that works very well

I tried few variations of ports and different cables. I double checked all the ports by using the same cable with my desktop and laptop. The desk and laptops were able to connect to the router (with the same cable), but no dice with NAS. I tried different cables and a single port, again worked with other devices except the NAS. Others who had a similar problem said it was an issue with auto-negotiation, but I am unsure of what exactly it is.

As you said, reading through the various threads on the WD forum it appears to be a common problem with the MyCloud. Whilst most people seem to be blaming their AT&T U-verse router I think the fault lies with the MyCloud. I suggest you contact WD again and get them to send you a replacement as it is obviously not fit for purpose.
