Weird port issue

I have 381.61 installed on my ac87u and lan port 1 seems to have an issue where it only will negotiate to 100mbps and it says last device seen is unknown. If I plug the same cable into another port it negotiates to full gigabit speed. If I telnet into the router it gives the port status as down even though clearly it is not and traffic does pass-through that port. Anyone else see a similar behavior or does my router have a port issue?

I did not. I just bought router this week. So I updated to latest stock firmware then went to latest Merlin Firmware. Then put in all my configurations.

That is exactly the situation where you would need to do a full reset to defaults.

Follow the steps above and if the issue persists at that point, it may indicate a faulty router.

The RT-AC87U LAN port 1 is NOT part of the Broadcom switch, therefore you cannot see its state through robocfg. Port 1 is part of a second switch, based on a Realtek chip, and not controllable by robocfg.

Why would it not run at gig speed though? Do you recommend restoring to factory defaults as well?

No idea. Try a different cable - different switches might be more or less sensitive to cable quality than others.

Also try an actual speed test rather than just rely on the reported link rate, in case Quantenna might have changed the API and the webui is reporting it wrong.

A factory default reset is unlikely to change anything, because that port is not controlled by the main firmware, but by a separate one, which isn't configurable. Try rather a complete power reset:

1) Turn off the router.
2) Unplug the power
3) Turn it back on while it's still unplugged, to drain any left over power
4) Wait 5 seconds, then turn it off
5) Plug power back, turn it on, and let it boot normally.
