Man, I only wanted the gui to stop asking for too much information before I could ever get to configure it in order to put required information in. Without it changing IP.

Simple... so who's the troll? Cant handle constructive criticism? Mke the forum private... We know you are all FRIENDS.. I never wanted friends... I wanna get paid for figuring out what a customer asked me to, using THEIR choice of firmware, for the reason I posetd, a copy of MY network setup.

I think this thread is over, so I will say that while you seem to have a larger-than-life personality, your writing style really undermined any valid arguments you may have had. And sometimes a picture is worth 1000 words. A network diagram would have been useful to actually give actionable advice.

Hey, if all your complaints revolve around the initial setup GUI pages - and by the way, these do not create any sort of "account" with Merlin (they are the same ones used by stock Asus firmware and they only exist to make sure most people run through the bare minimum to nominally secure their router: ie.-create a username and password for the web interface, as well as create the SSIDs and passwords for those SSIDs) then just go directly to the main router "start" page, accessible at (routerIP)/index.asp , usually either 192.168.1.1/index.asp (or) 192.168.50.1/index.asp in the case of the newer HND platform routers.

Any talk of bluescreens caused by the router is just laughable....

Hmm...I just offered a suggestion on a way to access all of the setup pages that bypasses the initial "wizard" screens. Without any sarcasm, have you tried that? I haven't needed to use it today (as I am not in the process of setting up a router from scratch at this moment), but from recollection I don't recall it forcing any IP address changes.

You know nothing about networking. The router has default LAN IP and DHCP running. Otherwise you won’t be able to connect and set it up. Same with Cisco routers. Have you seen a Cisco router?

I'm complicated. But I dont want to waste time filmin a blue screen twice, cause that forces 2 reboots..

In simple terms.

Once past the setup gui, I proceed to set lan ip then wan (public) then logout of router. I disconnect it to plug in the lte to the wan set to the public, but obviously most routers use 192.168.1.1 as gui default, I attempt to set the ac86u to 192.168.1.2, and suddenly the Ac86u shows a page demanding to change to 192.168.2.1, with no way out of it but to close browser and login again, over and over...

To you it'll be at least a big note, because I know they wont sell YOU the cmts with the ej-docsis, you know, the card you insert into the cmts to plug your modem into to get free internet, become an isp, and sell your unused bandwidth BACK to you?

That's right, they'll sell you the cmts, with no DOCSIS commands, included, which I'd only know cause I have 3, now if YOU know cisco, tell me why you have no DOCSIS commands in the cmts, nah, you'll google it...

I'm not a cisco engineer... I have a helicopter, does not mean I have a license to fly... and I'd have to shrink to get up on that shelf to find out its doors dont open.... its a model.

But clever enough to use pegasus to decrypt the cfe of any asus router.

Err...is this 5.5 year old thread (unanswered?, yet with 30+ replies) really relevant to current firmware versions? I suspect not.

Again, a bit of a network map drawing (or more complete description) might help us help you. It's not clear what you are setting up as the WAN interface side of this Asus router (fixed IP, with an internal LAN address?) pointing to another device on your LAN side? Same subnet?

Soz, but am so up to date, I forget some sites keep old stock...

Network map, phew...

I know, it's nippage:

192.168.1.1 = Lte router
2 = Receives LTE router's PUBLIC ip, gives 192.168.1.2 on LAN

The rest is irelevant, cause it all works in order from 3, 4, 5, 6, 192.168.1.7, ie, asus is forcing me to reset the ip before I can get to the GUI to change it to what I need, it forces an entire page saying change ip, only way out is to close browser and lose any config not saved.

The LAN needs to be 192.168.1.2, but the gui is blocking me when I attempt it. The customer WILL forget his password, and in his attempt to get in will reset... I need this to keep ip if this happens... to stop all this loop da loop set up account while we prevent your ideal structure...

Any attempt to set the asus to accept this is the pain. Asus want to reset my ip range to 192.168.2.1, I need it on 192.168.1.2 without asus page saying routers ip changed to... forcing reset of account information, because any attempt to manually set ip in laptop ethernet to get to 192.168.2.1 in order to get to 192.168.1.2 y disbaling in order to change ip causes bluescreen, and so over and over it goes...

My networking skills are no too bad... This gui is awful....

One that I don't see a way around, as it is true that a full reset (either through the reset button, or long press of the WPS button) WILL set the router back to the default LAN IP (either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.50.1).

Isn't that (by definition) the nature of doing a full reset? Going back to defaults?

Bypassing dns by simply using public ip in second router, bogus domaining the priv ip of the first router in the 2nd, you know, the one provided by your isp to hijack your dns?

I figured this out when people started havin problems with modem only mode, this was my cure...

here, I'm reminded of sitting in the Bank Hotel in edinburgh discussing with 2 blueyonder techies (1mb was the fastest) that I could take their modem to any location and turn it on, they laughed... hi will, good to see your still here...

The cure is simple... back it up. But to set the ip initiallly to back it up... I had to disconnect, set lan 1st, then wan, then plug all in. only one way... to show the others the actual way to solve this.

Merlin was never for me... but the customer wants this ac86u to act like my ac56u with fresh tomato, and that's been running perfect at 1200/800 , but guess what, this router wont do anything else... and I know now not to ever use merlin in any future routers... I make money setting up routers to bypass dns hijackin... asus are out.
