What 3G modems are people using with their Asus?

In my case I have an RT-AC87U. I've been over the "official" Asus list, but all the dongles are a tad old (can't even use them with Windows 10 to test due to no driver support). I'm based in the Uk, if that makes a difference.

I'm getting ready to cut over from a Cradlepoint MBR1400 to an Asus RT-AC66U and have been busy testing my USB modems. So far I've confirmed a Pantech UML290 (Verizon US) and Sierra Wireless Beam AC340U (AT&T US) to be functional with AsusWRT-Merlin. Both modems are capable of 4G LTE and 3G connections.

See posts #10 and #11 in this thread for details on configuration:

I'll also be testing a Netgear Unite Explore, Verizon JetPack and a Sierra Wireless Momentum AC313U in the near future -- so I'll get back to you on those.

I'm using the ZTE MF823, bought in the UK.
That dongle works ok directly with the ASUS routers (at least AC87u and AC88U) for simple connectivity, but if you need something that works through the CGNAT that most dongles now seem to apply (e.g. if you want to use DDNS), I've found that using something like a Dovado Tiny between the router and the dongle is required.
