what is this error message on openVPN ? and how to resolve without restarting the router ? please help.

What message do you get if you place the mouse pointer over the yellow '!' ?

The error message will be in your System Log.

when i hover my mouse icon over it ...it says "ip/conflict"

Are you using static IP's on any of your devices?

If you are, you need to make sure they are unique IP's for each device.

If not, shut down the entire network including switches and any clients you have.

Now, plug in the modem, wait 5 minutes. Plug in the router, wait 5 minutes. Plug in the switches and then turn on each device / client you have. I would be checking that each one has internet access and doesn't have a conflict shown before I turned on the next one.

Well to help the OP a little you will get an IP conflict when you connect 2 networks that have their own DHCP servers that use the same IP subnet with overlapping IP addresses. Regardless if it is a star based networking or a tunnel between 2 networks make sure that the DHCP addresses assigned between one network and the other or between LAN and VPN clients are different but within the same subnet.

When connecting 2 networks it can also happen if both routers have the same IP address somewhere of if a client is on another network using the same IP subnet at the same time.

Okay, that is good info.

But how do you get:

From;

Im on openVPN :D:eek:

???

Okay, it's all good now. :)

im not using any kind of static ip on any device. My DSL modem is bridged with router. Router is the only device which has DHCP turned on.

This usually disappears when i restart the router.

What SEM is trying to say is that when you connect to another network with VPN (or any other way) you should have the IP ranges set up in the DHCP scope to not interlap with one another.

So if you have the 192.168.1.1 network for both your local and your VPN connection, one should be handing out IP addresses in the 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.124 range and the other should be in the 192.168.1.125 to 192.168.1.254 range. Including making sure that the routers on each end are not both using the 192.168.1.1 default as their IP address.
