I have read quite a bit on this router, and it seems that it has some problems.

As someone that is new to this router, and new to this interface (been using DD-WRT for many many many years). What should I make sure that I avoid using with this router as it is broken and will cause instability.

FYI I am using 3.0.0.4.270.26 (Merlin build).

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I used 270.26 for a while with no problem, ow I'm on 354.27 and also this one is good ( thanks to RMerlin ;) ).
For normal use both are OK, I had no problems with Wifi not with remote ftp access to my shared HD.
Performance my vary depending on the Wifi chipset of the client, for me with most Apple device I had no problem and good performance, no particular change I made to the default setting, just added +10 mv to the 5 G power to get a little more signal when I'm on the garden ;)
Hope you will be happy as me :)

Download Master is something I recommend people avoid installing. It includes an Edonkey/eMule client (aMule) which cannot be disabled, and will by default share your Download folder without giving you any control over it.

Thanks for the advice so far. Last night I had an interesting problem. I woke up and had no Internet access. My router was online for <12 hours and already a problem and was concerned considering my previous router with DD-WRT would be up for months and months and months and months.

I woke up with internal network working perfect, with no Internet access. I was able to navigate my internal networking with no problem. I could ping the LAN side of my router with no problem, and could even ping an ISP DNS server, but couldn't get to the internet.

I rebooted the router and everything came up perfect. Going to monitor carefully.

Do you have any replacement recomendation for the Download Master?

There are threads on this forum on how to manually install Transmission through Entware or Optware. It's the same Bittorrent client as Download Master, only much more recent, and doesn't include nzbget and aMule.

I've had no problems with many wireless devices, multiple devices streaming, or feeding several large format printers huge files via powerline adapters - all simultaneously. Best router I've ever owned. Currently running latest Asus firmware (.354).

I really like the Download Master. Updated it and have it running all the time. Threw a USB 3TB HD on the router for storage. No problems once I updated. Also like the Download Master Windows utility. Click and forget. Great add-on for this router.

You can go right on using DD-WRT. I got this version off of the forums over at dd-wrt.org. I have flashed it to my "old" RT-AC66U and it seems stable. Haven't connected it to my modem yet so I cannot comment about WiFi performance.
