Dear Merlin,

I do have a Asus RT-N66U. I am using the driver 3.0.0.4.374.35_4-sdk5 at this moment. I have used the newest drivers, but my iPhone 5s is sometimes losing signal when I'm at the 3rd floor. With the sdk5 driver I have no problems.

But problem is, our Sony TV doens't recognise my phon with this driver. Which of your firmware(s) do use the same Wi-Fi driver but is newer?

Why can't we change the tX in the newest drivers? Do you have tips for me?

I am using the latest RMerlin firmware for my and my customers routers, v376.47.

The changes are from Asus with their closed source drivers, RMerlin did not implement those himself.

But if range is your most important criteria, then you may want to try the fork based on slightly older RMerlin firmware but with the latest security patches.

Yes I know that the changes are from Asus. I am very satisfied with the firmware of RMerlin, so that's why I was curious which newest firmware does have this "old" range.

That Fork update, is that the same version as RMerlin? What does fork mean? And last question, does it have the same wireless range as the sdk5 version?

Thanks in advance!

For the N66U it's generally believed that the sdk5 drivers offered the best performance, and I think you are running the latest level with that driver.

The sdk6 drivers in the follow on releases seem to work well for some users, while other users complain about performance. You can read threads where one post says it's terrible and the very next post says it's the best ever. So best advice is to try the various releases for yourself.

For your question on a 'fork'....that is taking one of Merlin's releases and applying updates or fixes separately to that specific release apart from Merlin's ongoing work. Said differently, it's taking a snapshot in time of a release and creating a new branch of code.

Thank you for your reply!

I just downloaded the fork update and wireless performance seems the same as the sdk5 version. I did a factory reset before and after upgrading.
