Thank you so much for the responses,

my ISP speed is 200mbps download

20mb upload.

I agree an AX card is unnecessary like i mentioned, my router is AC 5ghz but I thought I would get an AX card to future proof my PC.

I do like the sound of that media bridge option, I assume it would pick up a solid signal to transmit to my PC LAN port - because my PCIe Asus AC-88 is able to pick up a good 5ghz signal where I am so that should mean a router would be able to do the same.

haha yes i know how it looks, I have tried something similar to that but was disappointed which is why I have opted for the ac88 due to its 4 x aerials.

Hello again
So I have been doing more research and looked into access point mode, repeater mode and media bridge mode options on ASUS routers.
I have decided to go with the rt 68 router as it is more in budget vs the rt 86.

can I just double check my understanding

I will have :
option 1:)
My old router acting as a modem only mode—>
Wired LAN connection to the ASUS 68 which is now on access point mode
(Essentially the main source of WiFi in the house)
—->
Wireless connection to
A second ASUS rt 68 next to my pc (which is connected to the 1st rt 68 by WiFi)
—->
Rj45 connection
Connection by rj45 from the 2nd ASUs rt68 to my PC.

Can other devices connect to this second router also via WiFi? Like in a mesh system kind Of way?
Or is it one or the other?

I know these old repeaters/extenders usually have LAN cable slots which allow wired connections in addition to WiFi signal that they transmit.
Or will this media bridge mode change that
Thanks!
