I have a portable Buffalo HD-PNTU3 hard drive attached to one of my asus rt-ac66u usb ports (printer attached to the other one).

I went to tools/other settings and set hard disk spin down time to 3600s.

Why isn't my hard drive spinning down after being idle for 1 hr?

Thanks a lot. Loving my asus router and merlin so far.

either it doesn't support spindown or somethings waking it up in less than 59 minutes!

Hi,
Some times it is f/w issue for the hard drive. What brand HD is in the box? Checked if there is f/w update for the drive?

I lowered the amount of idle time before shutdown and this time my hard drive did spin down.

Weird. I must have activated it somehow. Problem solved.

Thanks everyone.

it will be the operating system polling the network, tbh 5 mins is plenty for most nas drives :)

All my supported platforms have this option.

THANK YOU RMerlin for your platforms.

I have no idea why asus doesn't add hard disk spin down to their routers themselves - especially with all their "aicloud" stuff they promote. I'm very thankful for all your add-ons.
