This might be a silly question but I can’t seem to find the answer so hopefully you guys can help. I have 4 meshed AX92u’s which provide really good coverage and generally excellent connection speed. What I can’t understand is why my hardwired PC consistently maxes out my broadband connection (660Mbit) using a range of Speedtest servers but the results using Wi-Fi vary greatly.
E.g.
Server A 660mb hardwired vs 200mb Wi-Fi
Server B 660mb vs 560mb
Server C 660mb vs 120mb (my isp)

The results are the same over and over again. Anyone know why this would be?

Each mesh connection can reduce throughput. A lot depends on your mesh configuration, i.e. distance between nodes. This will determine how many "hops" (each mesh node is a "hop") a packet must go through before hitting the internet.

More mesh nodes are not necessarily better. If there is too much overlap between nodes, a device might bounce between nodes or choose a node with a lower bandwidth connection.

What you are seeing is the reason many people on this site will tell you Ethernet is the gold standard. For reliable high speed connection use a hardwired connection. Use WiFi only for portable devices.

Hi, thanks for the replies. What I'm really trying to get at is why all the servers I use for the test max out my wired connection but each one always delivers the same variance in speed over wifi. I just can't fathom why that would be.
