There are also rumours about Apple having their own solution sometime in 2025. Who knows what'll happen, so many rumours, but for now, it's not their own hardware.

The W2 chip in the Apple Watch Series 3 is apple's own Bt/Wifi combo - W3 added 5Ghz support, along with BT 5.0/5.3 - sources say this is Apple's IP inside... they hired a couple of guys from Broadcom years ago (before AirPod launch), and those guys have been driving the W1/2/3 (Apple watch and some headphones) and H1/2 that are used by Airpods.

Interesting that when looking at the Association Request/Response on the W2 chipset, it's very different that the Broadcom chips used on Mac and iDevices... It's pretty basic WiFi4 for both bands.

Apple - who knows what the future holds - they do like to control as much of their tech stack as possible, only using others if there is benefit to do so - doing one's own wireless IP is very costly and time consuming...
