Need to help to find out why my wifi speed is much lower than LAN. Just sign up Xfinity performance pro. I did speed test on my Router ASUS RU-AC66U with Asuswrt-Merlin Firmware:380.64. The speed meet the 100 down. However, the speed only less than half (40 to 50) on wifi when I set my laptop next to the router. I have setted 2.4G N only with 20 Mhz channel bandwidth. Switched to 40Mhz or 20/40 did not increase speed. Anyone has the same problem that wifi only has half speed? How to fix it.

Thanks and happy new year to everyone!

Of all the wireless devices I have only the Surface3 was actual able to get 100mbit down, everything else is 20-50mbit, that is inducing iphone5/6 and current android phones devices. very doubt fulll it the router more likely its how the device it self is setup. possible even the power saving settings on them

Because your using 2.4ghz. That band is over crowded. Use 5ghz. And also use the wifi analyzer app to see what channels are less crowded.

I am using win 10 on non surface device. That's bad news for me since I can not fully using the download speed.

I played around the channels from 1 to 11, and the the difference was very small. All of them were less than 60Mpbs.

Yep that's pretty normal on 2.4. Do your devices not support 5ghz? Did you check to see how many other 2.4 wifis are around you and what channels?

Get a better card perhaps?

A lot of the lower end laptops (and tablets) come with single stream 802.11 b/g/n cards - and getting wide channels these days is not likely...

In good conditions, one can expect to get around 35Mb/Sec throughput - see below:

That's pretty much lab setting. With no other interference. So if you actually see that then you don't have neighbors close enough. There are only 3 channels that can be used in an area without interference. 1 6 and 11. In my neighborhood i see 12 different ssids on 2.4. Its impossible to find a perfect clean channel. I see 60mps about on my 2.4 with the 68u. I use my 5ghz for most devices. And i see 300mbps over that.

You are correct though the device makes a big difference too. If its an on single n or g card you will never see any food speed.

Your test shows you getting 4 MB/s or 32 mbits. You are getting slower speed than the tbread starter.

One last thought - this is CoxHSI which promises a 150/10 connection... on a good day it does..

Your link speed will determine how much speed you'll get. Expect 50-70% of the link speed depending on how clean the frequency is. The link speed is determined by the router's/clients number of streams and bandwidth used.
What is your link speed?
