New Around Here
Hello:

I did my best to set up my new router (RT-AX86U Pro), and it works, kinda’.

However, while I set passwords for WiFi 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz, they are not accepted for use. Linking TV (Roku) and other “peripherals' can only be done with the login data for the Setup site (UserID: Router). I have no idea what I may have done to cause this, but would be most grateful for help in correcting the issue.

Thanks,

Hans L

As a troubleshooting step, if you haven't done so already, change the WiFi passwords to use only numbers and letters. Avoid using spaces, special characters, foreign special characters and the like when troubleshooting password problems.

When I am in Network Map, and I change the 2.4 and 5.0 passwords (only letters and digits this time), and I click "Apply", the screen comes back with the 2.4 and 5.0 passwords being the same as router login password.

Do you have the same problem if you change the WiFi passwords on the Wireless GUI page?
What firmware version are you running on your RT-AX86U Pro?
Is the RT-AX86U Pro configured for Wireless router mode? Or is it configured for some other mode or configured as an AiMesh node?
Have you enabled any of the AiCloud 2.0 features/options?

As a last resort youcould do a hard factory reset on the RT-AX86U Pro and manually reconfigure it without importing a saved router.cfg file. And see if the issue persists.

Yes, I just discovered that the erouter is in "Wireless router mode / AiMesh Router mode (Default)". Which mode should it be in for two wired users (desktopes) and one Laptop + printer and ROKU?

Generally the router should be in "Wireless router mode / AiMesh Router mode (Default)" for normal usage.

Can you successfully change the WiFi passwords on the Wireless GUI page?

A friend, who is an Apple consultant, visited us, and I happened to mention my router problems. So, he offered to help. After a number of fruitless attempts, we made a factory reset, and he then set up WiFi with the help of the initial setup screens. That worked. Here is that is shown on tp of the Network Map screen:

Operation Mode:Wireless router Firmware Version: 3.0.0.6.102_34336 SSID: H&R 2.4 GHz Wifi H&R 5.0 GHz Wifi

However, in the System Status box is shown, for 2.4 and 5.0, the login username and password for getting into router settings. This is a pretty surprising situation in re to a reputable manufacturer's product.

So, I have everything in the house working with the desired 2.4 and 5.0 names and password.

Thank you for your effort to solve my problem. And no thanks to ASUS.

Justin, not much to be shown once I would have blacked out passwords. I wtill find it hard to believe that there is a good reason that after saving with new names and passwords for 2.4 and 5.0, they should revert to login values for router setting site.
