Hey Guys,

I have an AC3100 running the latest stock ASUS FW. I currently am using Dual-Band Smart Connect Wifi configuration and I'm trying to force a particular device to 2.4Ghz instead of 5 Ghz. If I were to enable Wireless MAC filter on the 5GHZ band a reject the device MAC address will it force it to 2.4? If not I would appreciate any other recommendations on how I can accomplish this task.

Thanks
John

Different SSID and password for 2.4 and 5 GHZ bands. Set the device to log into the 2.4 only. Simple?

That’s very simple. But it’s not what I’m asking..;)

I’m asking if wireless Mac filtering can be used to restrict a particular band(in this case 5ghz) and force the client to use a 2.4 band with same SSID.

You can try it. There was a report that MAC filtering does not work on nodes yet. And, you never know how a client will behave when it tries to connect. Manually steering with unique SSIDs seems to be most reliable, but not very smart!

Thank you. I did try it but did not work. It didn’t even block access to the 5Ghz band.

I think I’m going to create a 2.4Ghz guest network in the interim and assign the device to that.

Guest networks are not implemented on nodes... yet.
