Wireless speed decreases & fluctuate on wireless AP

Hi guys! I have a RT-AC56U & AC87U all running the latest merlin firmware.

My AC56U is setup as the main router wheras my AC87U is setup as a access point in the second storey of my house.

I used my iPhone 5s to do a speedtest on both my routers (Tested it by standing beside both routers using 5ghz band)
RT-AC56U - Down 110mbps, Up 95mbps
RT-AC87U - Down 30-55mbps, Up 20 - 55mbps

As u can see from the results, i get half of what my main router download and upload speed on my AP. I bridged my AP to the router using LAN port 1 & i get the advertised ISP speeds while on LAN connection on my AP to a PC.

As for both router channels and frequency, i have set it to:
RT-AC56U - 40Mhz Channel 161
RT-AC87U - 40Mhz Channel 153

Same Wireless 5Ghz SSID

Any ideas what is the reason behind the slow & fluctuating wireless speed? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Are you sure that you are connected to the router near not you and not still to the far one? You can test it by changing the SSID of one of the routers.

I had the same issue with my two routers, mainly due to 'beamforming' (Wireless/Professional tab on the router config). After disabling it, the re-connect worked better between the routers for Apple devices.

Thanks for your reply Joe!

I have disabled both 802.11ac Beamforming & Universal Beamforming on the both router's 5Ghz wifi setting.

But it seems that the download & upload speed still hasnt improve...
