Asus RT-AC86U Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.386_51529

I recently upgraded my Fibre from FTTC to FTTP and changed isp in the process, I had to set my VID to 101 (Lan > IPTV> Internet 101) also change the Wan Connection from PPPoe to Automatic IP, all seemed to go well. I have also attached a Linksys Velop AX4200 router in bridge mode to work as an access point at the other end of my house.

Yesterday I noticed that my Nest Thermostat had lost connection to the internet, after spending hours trying different things, I though I would try and see if any of my other devices could connect to the wifi on my Asus router, but nothing would connect my Android Phone just asks for the wifi password and then says unable to connect, my iPads keeps telling me I am entering the wrong password, but I have triple checked it with my Asus router and even changed the wifi password to be sure, but still cannot connect any device either on 2.4ghz or 5ghz, I also have a guest wifi setup on the router but that does not connect either, I did have the same problem once before and just rebooted the router and everything was fine, this time I have rebooted, also powered down the router for a few minutes, changed the SSIDs and Passwords, Also split the 5ghz from 2.4ghz with different SSID's but nothing seems to work.

I have noticed that when I try to connect a wireless device the follwing message appears in the system log:
Jul 30 18:56:42 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(530): eth6: Auth DE:9F:BF:xx:xx:xx, status: Successful (0), rssi:0
Jul 30 18:56:42 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(559): eth6: Assoc DE:9F:BF:xx:xx:xx, status: Successful (0), rssi:0
Jul 30 18:56:50 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(494): eth6: Deauth_ind DE:9F:BF:xx:xx:xx, status: 0, reason: Deauthenticated because sending station is leaving (or has left) IBSS or ESS (3), rssi:0

The xx's in the Mac address have replace the orignial charaters by me for security.

I hope someone can help with my wifi woes.

WDS tab is actually at default. I don't have an Asus router up and running at the moment and had to check the online demo. Reset the router, setup manually. If the same issue persists - plan a replacement. This router is known for multiple hardware and software issues plus it's End-of-Life now.

Many people lost their RT-AC86Us for various hardware issues from overheating through broken radios to sudden death after voltage regulator inside blow up. Reset your router to factory defaults, set it up manually again. If it starts working properly - good, hope for the best. If the same issue happens - get a new router. The closest replacement today is RT-AX86U Pro model, runs the new Asuswrt 5.0 firmware and will be supported for few more years.

Is there anything newer than the AX86U I am keen to get something thats likely to last, I am not one for changing routers every few years if I can help it.

I need one that allows me to Configure the WAN Port to VLAN 101 so that I can connect to my isp without using their router in Bridge Mode, I also use the OpenVPN Server and Dyndns on the router.

This is the new marketing model. Right now you need some Wi-Fi 7 router for a chance for 4+ years of support. You'll play beta tester for few years first with early Wi-Fi 7 products. The newest AX-class router is RT-AX88U Pro - basically the same hardware as RT-AX86U Pro with one extra 2.5GbE port.

I need one that allows me to Configure the WAN Port to VLAN 101

This is available on entry-level under $100 routers, not a problem and not unique feature.

Well it turns out there was nothing wrong with the Asus router after all, I had setup another Linksys router in Bridge mode which was supposed to also be AP mode, I realised this was the last thing I had setup before the problems with wifi on my Asus occurred, I switched the Linksys Velop off and straight away my wifi on the Asus router started working again.
