This bug has been irritating me for so long. It has been discussed on AsusWRT-Merlin section as well. However, I feel this is AsusWRT bug.

A workaround for missing clients has been found:

Enable a guest network on 2.4 Ghz

Hide SSID: Yes (So that you won't be bothered by it.
Set network password (for obvious security)
Access Intranet : Disabled

Keep rest of the things on default.

Now each and every device on your LAN will magically appear. If you run into some random odd issues, let me know.

Doesn't work here. How I tested and what conclusion I came to:

Hardware - AX86U as Router, AC86U as Media Bridge.
Observation - After rebooting AC86U it works as Media Bridge, but disappears from AX86U client list.

Test 1 - GN enable on AX86U -> AC86U appears again. Reboot of AC86U - it's gone.
Test 2 - GN disable on AX86U -> AC86U appears again. Reboot AC86U - it's gone.
Test 3 - Wireless restart on AX86U -> AC86U appears again. Reboot AC86U - it's gone.

When you start/stop GN it restarts Wireless. Wireless restart makes hidden device to appear, not GN itself. This effect is only temporary.

Here it’s working even after a reboot. I have tested this workaround for almost a week.

@Tech9 can you reset both your devices to factory default and try again?

TBH, you should use AC86U as AI Mesh node with wired backhaul enabled. That would be the BEST way to connect 2 Asus branded routers in same LAN. Then you won’t have the problem you are facing and you can update both from AX86U’s GUI.

They are almost always reset to default. The routers are used for experiments only. This fix doesn’t work in my testing. AC86U was put in Media Bridge mode only to simulate hidden device because I’ve seen it happening before. Every time AC86U reboots, it disappears again.

Hello,

Thank you very much for the tip. It's a fun unexpected one.
After creating an additional 2.4GHz guest network, some clients became visible :)
Best regards

Main router: AC86U, Operation Mode:Wireless router, Firmware:386.12_2
I didn't test if it still works after a reboot. (My guess is "not"; because I already had a guest network on 2.4GHz.)
