Congrats!I made several attempts with winscp and it would not connect. Finally after a number of tries, I got both putty and Winspc to connect. I uploaded mtd-write and the original cfe. Flashed the cfe with correct mac addresses and HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN !!!! The router works as it should. Both wireless and Ethernet are back to normal.
I would like to express my many thanks to all of the people who have made this journey possible.
Please give yourself all a pat on the back. I and my router thank you.

Yes, you can!
You could also try in Putty to check your Mac Address:
