YazFi YazFi Lite with Router in AP Mode?

The above is difficult to follow based on description and screen shots. Based on your testing and observations could you guys do something like this?

Code:
Node VLAN Propagation VLAN limit Custom IP

3004 yes/no x yes/no

3006 yes/no y yes/no

Firmware below version 37000 has GNP instead of Network. Unfortunately, things may change again once GPL/firmware above 37000 becomes available.

For years I have used WinSCP to copy (a) custom_clientlist (b) dhcp_staticlist and (c) custom_usericon from the Routers /jffs/nvram/ folder and then copied these back to other routers to populate the table.

I have old posts advising doing it to save time, but lately discovered it creates difficult to track issues with firmware components locking up in 3004. My advice is to find alternative ways going forward especially with VLAN involvement.

Thank you for the feedback on this, it’s narrowing down what is and isn’t possible.

Right; and only certain devices can run 3006. Ok at least I’ll be able to put the AX88U Pro as an AIMESH node to (say) a BE main router.

Sorry I don’t really follow that?

Yup I discovered the same; I even put wee red boxes around it in my screencaps 👍🏼
I have one guest network set up with 2.4, 5, AND 6 GHz. I cannot push that guest network to node(s) that are 2.4 and 5 GHz only. Is that clearer?

Glad to see there is progress on this. I've been using stock guest network pro firmware on the ax86u pro.

One issue that I miss from merlin is being able to set one way communication from host to guest. Is that possible with the merlin software on the ax86pro now?

With custom IPTables scripting probably. The YazFi script itself isn't coded for the changes the 3006 firmware brings, and don't think anyone's mentioned getting it to run successfully on Asus-Merlin 3006 firmware to date.

A comment from the 3006.102.4 Alpha thread that involves YazFi...
Edit: to anyone using YazFi (or if anyone used it on the past), please remove it and remove manually any traces of it. Uninstalling it kept traces of it on dnsmasq postconf and broke the guest networks.

Right, got it now. Wow that’s interesting, sort of limits you to buying nodes that have 6GHz… but it makes sense. Just to confirm, if you configure that network for 2.4 and 5 only (delete the 6Ghz band), then it works (get pushed to) the nodes?

Yes, you can opt to push it to the nodes with 6 GHz disabled for that particular guest network.

That’s a shame because I think there’s a lot good information in there. Essentially these are the main points being made above:
  1. 3006 Main propagates Guest / IoT networks to 3004 Nodes via VLANs but is limited (per @visortgw comment) to “two devices per band per node (plus primary router)”. ASUS calls these Wi-Fi interfaces. Per visortgw, no restriction when running 3006 Main/3006 Node.
  2. When setting up the IoT VLAN (at least) you can select to use the Main subnet or another subnet. You can select the subnet yiu want and you can amend it later too (although if you have added Custom IP addresses you will probably have to manually change them all).
  3. Each VLAN has its own DHCP dishing out addresses for that subnet but you can manually assign Custom IP addresses (max 32, not a lot for IoT Networks).
  4. The ASUS client list is still wonky in that it clearly shows IoT network devices (subnet 53j in main network list (subnet 9). RMerlin has stated many times this is ASUS issue (closed source).
  5. If you have custom DHCPs on an old router and intend to use the same subnet they were on (primary subnet) you can copy the custom_clientlist/dhcp_staticlist to your new router and they will populate the primary DHCP; but you advise against this.
Hopefully that is a wee bit clearer, my apologies for the previous data dump.

As regards your table I can only speak to 3004 nodes (off 3006 primary)
Code:
Node VLAN Propagation VLAN limit Custom IP

3004 yes 2 yes

Notes:
  • 3006-102.4 alpha.
  • VLAN limit is as above; 2 Wi-Fi interfaces per band (Primary plus ONE other), not a limit of total number of VLANs.
  • Custom IP is 32 per VLAN.
k.

EDIT; Seems limit is 1x2.4 and 1x5Ghz per VLAN. So if you split the Bands and limit the node to one band (eg 2.4) for one VLAN Network, you can release the other band (5) for another VLAN network.

Thanks. I wonder if some of the features of Yazfi, like one way networks, etc can be implemented more easily than getting the whole Yazfi script working. Guest Network Pro already does a lot of stuff that Yazfi used to do like VPN, etc.

I'm not capable of doing it myself but we can hope ;)

Personally, I'm waiting for the beta version of the Asus-Merlin 3006.102_4 firmware before I try to experiment with some of the iptables entries to emulate some of the YazFi features I used. Will also be experimenting with trying to assign manual IP addresses to the Guest Network Pro clients when GNP is configured with "Use same subnet as main LAN" as disabled (off). The alpha version appears to have some issues.

Good thing AiMesh is making progress, thanks @jksmurf and @visortgw for sharing the observations. 👍
